Compass Realms Scholarship  

In 2014, Compass established a special merit scholarship for applicants who demonstrate  exceptional accomplishment and intellectual promise. This scholarship was created support the  school's mission to encourage students to create change, foster collaboration, turn passion into  action, and have a tangible impact in their communities. It has a max value of 15% of full tuition.  

Students who apply are evaluated according to the following criteria:  

  • They are current or returning students of Compass.  

  • They are eligible for full need-based aid.  

  • They have a strong academic record.  

  • They have shown evidence of leadership and service.  

This scholarship is renewable for subsequent years of study as long as the student meets the  criteria above.  

Interested families should complete their application for this scholarship by May 1.  


Application Process  

Step 1: Families must apply for financial aid through TADS. To do so, find the TADS link on the  Compass website or copy https://mytads.com into your browser. This serves as the family's  application for this scholarship.  

Step 2: The student is required either to complete either 12 hours of community service in their  town of residence or complete a Compass high-honors project (high honors standing is not  required).  

Step 3: The student to is required complete a short essay (about 150-200 words) on ONE of the  two following prompts:  

1. How do you benefit from being at Compass?  

2. How do you contribute well to Compass by being here?  

This essay may be handwritten or typed, but should be neat and presentable.

Compass Odyssey Award  

This scholarship is available to students for their first full year of enrollment, and can be applied  after need-based aid has been determined. It has a max value of 15% of full tuition.  

Students who apply are evaluated according to the following criteria:  

  • They are current or returning students of Compass.  

  • They are eligible for full need-based aid.  

  • They have a strong academic record.  

  • They have shown evidence of leadership and service.  

This scholarship is renewable for subsequent years of study as long as the student meets the  criteria above.  

Interested families should complete their application for this scholarship as soon after  acceptance as possible.  

Application Process  

Step 1: Find the TADS link on the Compass website or copy https://mytads.com into your browser.  This serves as the family's application for this scholarship.  

Step 2: The student must answer the following prompt, which the student may answer either in  writing or artistically: The written portion may be handwritten or typed, but should be neat and  presentable. This project may be submitted in person, mailed, or sent digitally to  admissions@compass-school.org.  

Compass measures student achievement in a wide variety of proficiencies over five  Learning Realms:  

  • Knowledge  

  • Thinking and Reasoning  

  • Communication  

  • Personal Development  

  • Community Involvement  

Pick one of these realms and express what it means to you. Then, explain how you would  contribute to the Compass community in this area. A written response should be no more  than 300 words. An artistic response may be through any media, but should include a short  (50 words max) artist statement.

Compass Benefactor Support Award  

This award is available through generous outside support for students who have financial need that  goes beyond what Compass can provide through its own aid programs. This award replaces a  maximum of full tuition for one year. Fees remain the responsibility of the family.  

Students who apply are evaluated according to the following criteria:  

  • They are current or returning students of Compass.  

  • They are eligible for full need-based aid.  

  • They have a strong academic record.  

  • They have shown evidence of being active, engaged participants in the school's program  and the Compass community.  

This scholarship is renewable for subsequent years of study as long as the student meets the  criteria above.  

Interested families should complete their application for this scholarship by May 1.  

Application Process

Step 2: The student is required to submit a letter of thanks to the benefactor. This letter should  answer the following prompts, either in one cohesive narrative or in a bulleted list of responses:  

  • How has school choice and the ability to attend Compass helped you as well as your family?  − How have you benefited from attending Compass this year?  

  • What are some of the ways you feel you’ve contributed to the Compass community in the past  year?  

  • What are some of your learning goals for next year (and beyond)?  

  • How do you feel Compass can contribute to reaching the goals you have?  This letter may be handwritten or typed, but should be neat and presentable.
