Winterm 2009 Two Weeks of Service Learning in Bellows Falls Community Kitchen Our Place

It is exciting to be working with Bellows Falls Community Kitchen, Our Place for the next two weeks.

Below are a list of resources/readings we will be utilizing as part of our Winterm study on hunger and poverty in Vermont.  Every morning we will have a reading and each afternoon after we've helped cook, serve and clean up lunch at the kitchen, we will have time to reflect on and discuss these important issues.

• Overview of goals for these next 2 weeks which are:

1. To understand the extent and impact of hunger and poverty in Vermont and the United States.

2.To appreciate the value of working in a volunteer capacity to bring awareness to hunger and poverty in our local Drop-In center, Our Place.

3. To be empowered and inspired to continue to make positive changes in the community beyond this Winterm course and to be able to envision how people can work together across social, socioeconomic and political boarders to build sustainable, local food systems that are fair and equitable.
