Project Week 2010

Project Week is the culminating event for the Compass school year. This is the time where students are asked to synthesize their learning throughout the year in self-directed, student or faculty initiated projects under faculty supervision. These projects offer students an energizing structure for learning in which students can demonstrate command of knowledge and skills developed through their courses and other learning experiences from throughout the year. Students are asked to develop projects that relate to course learning goals while allowing each student to pursue areas of particular interest.

There are several group projects this year, including: Sewing with Beth, Trail Work at Bald Hill with Ron, Filmmaking with Eric, Animation with Louise, and the Compass Middle School Exchange with the Renaissance School in Springfield, Mass.

Individual projects include: a study of sports science and fitness, dog house construction, building a generator, teaching elementary aged students, comic book writing, canoeing, wilderness travel, art creation, and writing.

Project Week culminates with project exhibitions on Celebration Night, to be held Wednesday June 9, with exhibits set up by 4:00. A wide ranging display of work will be on exhibit as students share their learning and demonstrate their developing expertise as independent learners able to pursue more extended and in depth projects. Please join us for this end of year event.
