Compass Junior Class Traveling to the Dominican Republic

The whole 11th grade class from Compass School is off to the Dominican Republic (as I write) for cultural immersion, service, and direct experience with issues of social justice. Having studied a variety of topics around economic development, quality of life, and the effects of globalization on individual lives, the students in this class are ready to learn about these issues first hand.

Major Capital Improvement Plans for Compass

Compass has big plans to make major capital improvements to the "Compass Campus." Much of the impetus for this work came from the Vermont Arts Council which recognized how well Compass intergrated arts throughout our curriculum. In discussing this, we recognized how we lacked a dedicated space for all this art creation and how much we could benefit from having a nice space to create, store, and display art.

As we looked at an arts addition, we have been led to considering our overall campus strategic plan. We have been wanting to improve the exterior first impressions of the school to reflect the quality of the learning inside the school. While we have made some improvements such as paving part of the driveway, building a storage shed, and adding a basketball court, we have been waiting on more significant changes to make sure we have a strong overall plan.
