Caitlin's Pet Rock Rap
Lil' Basalt is the name of my rock.
Well, when I first learned this--
I went into shock.
Living on the bottom of the ocean's floor,
Why my rock is closest to the devil's door.
Now that you've gotten a tast of Basalt's real face,
You can look him in the eye, and not begin to cry.
Although he has craters in the crest of his breast--
Craziness and evil do not rest in his nest.
basalt is the best, without a jest>
Fells like we've been at a stone's fest!
Shannon's Poem: Gray Rock
Gray Rock,
glassy and smooth
it glitters in the sun.
In the water it was
found.
Gray rock is gray
not brown.
In the shade it
changes from light
to dark.
It lived in the river
but is now in a box.
Jonah's Rock Poem: Blue Treasure
I am a blue treasure among grey
I was found in the month before May
A paper box smelling of china is my h ome
They call me Jed but my name is Jerome
Some people just don't understand a stone
Sometimes we just want to be alone
I am a blue treasure among grey
I was found in the month before May
Kailey, Jonah and Jill's Mafic & Felsic Rap
Mafic and felic determine the color
if you gotta problem then go tell yah mother
Rocks that are mafic
are so dark in color
Mafic and felic determine the color
if you gotta problem then go tell yah mother
Felsic rocks are lighter than that
Bein' quartz they excel like a naked mole rat!
Granite belongs here too
but that's a lot to look into
Mafic and felic determine the color
if you gotta problem then go tell yah mother

Simon: An Auto-Biography that will rock your world
Hello! My name is Simon! I am a sedimentary conglomerate. Conglomerate, coming from the Latin word meaning 'to form into a ball'. I know that I am a conglomerate bacuse there are tons of different sediments in my nice bod which include small pebbles, pieces of gravel and other large grains! Don't tell my rock friends, but I might actually be a piece of asphalt, made smooth by the river where I was found.
By now I'm sure you're dying to ear about my family history. Well, I must tell you that it's pretty mysterious. I am composed of so many different types of sediments and therefore, have many different parents. If I was a natural rock, my sediments would have smushed togetehr underground due to intense pressure.
Since I am a man-made rock (asphalt), i was mixed in with crushed stone, sand and gravel and heated to make up the compound that makes up roads. If you look at me closely, you can tell that I have some quartz, rose quarts, basalt and mica in me! If I was heated any further, I would look like smooth black pavement!
Here are some examples of Lena and Manya's Pet Rock Poems|
Kailey's Poem
Constantly changing as every
splash hits
trickles away dry again
white today.
Trickles come, all wet again
orangeybrown now
Watch me change,
I suppose.
I'll sit ere in a pose.

Lena’s Rock Love Poem
Small, pointy, not so round
you’re the rock that I found.
Dark purple, almost gray
I saw you for the first time today.
Parts are bumpy, parts are smooth
as soon I saw you, I was wooed.
You’ve got a few white stripes that are very thin
that’s why every time I see you, I grin.
As soon as I saw you by the river
I knew that for you I’d give up my liver.
And I knew that I would love you forever!
Manya’s Pet Rock Haikus for Four Different Rocks
What? A pet rock? For…
you? You’re 14 you know. Yeah,
a pet rock for me.
A zooming white stripe
catches my eye as I search
for a nice pet rock.
My rock—a mountain l
ava gushing from the peak
a sight to be seen.
This rock—it’s purple
but not just one shade—many
color glides across
