WINTERM  - This exciting 2-week block of academic service learning is a highlight of the Compass experience.  Student groups were posted today.

PARENTS, IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO HELP OUT FOR ANY OR ALL OF THE DAYS FROM THE WEEKS OF FEBRUARY 2-6 AND 9-13, PLEASE CONTACT JANICE IN THE OFFICE BY PHONE OR RON VIA E-MAIL: ron@compass-school.org.  We would benefit from drivers and supportive spirits.

We have enormous enthusiasm for our French Winterm offering - merci beaucoup!  Today after All School, Ron gave a letter to all students who signed up.  There is critical information, including tentative overnight travel plans to Montreal for February 9-10 and appraisement of an estimated cost of $95.  PLEASE READ THIS LETTER AND TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT THIS, as there is room in other groups in case people want or need to switch.  Thank you. The following students are to receive the letter:

Aliana, Allison, Ann, Aurora, Autumn, Christopher D., Christopher T., Daniel, Liz, Hope, Jake, Julia, Kori, Lindsay, Marie, Nicolai, Starcie, Sara L.

Parents, please let Ron know if you are able to chaperone on February 9-10 (ron@compass-school.org).  You do not need to speak French to join us.  You are welcome to join us for any or all of the first week to study no matter what your level of expertise; focus will be on oral language skills.  Merci beaucoup, mes amis!

1920's Museum- The 9/10th graders are working hard to create a Living 1920's Museum.  All are invited to this exciting night. Come mingle with Charlie Chaplin and Mary Pickford, dance to Duke Ellington (we hope), and read about the politics and culture of the day. Students are hoping to show silent movies and serve food as well.  Save the Date: Thursday, January 29, at 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

We need help: We are looking for a jazz band: does anyone know of some musicians who would play some music for the event (for free)?  Students are excited about a live band! E-mail Julia with names and numbers.  Thanks!

FINANCIAL AID FORMS

It is that time of year again, when it is important to start planning for attendance at Compass for next year. We recognize the importance of this decision and that the investment is considerable. As Compass determines how we can support our families financial needs, we will need all families interested in receiving financial aid to complete a financial aid form prior to February 14, 2009.

Financial Aid forms are available in the Compass School Office for pick-up, your child can be given one at school to take home, or we can mail a form to if you prefer. Please let us know if you will want a form and how you wish to obtain it.

--Wishing you all health and happiness in 2009, Compass Admissions

Winter Sports Lunch Reminder- Bag lunches are available on Thursday winter sports days for the normal lunch price of $3.50.

Please give to our annual appeal if you have not already done so. Any contribution will help lead to the goal of 100% parent participation which can help us leverage other grants. Your giving also supports the Challenge Grant of $25,000 whereby for every $3.00 you give we receive and additional $1.00.

We are working hard on a number of fronts to raise money to support financial aid to Compass families. We are pleased to announce that Compass has recently been awarded $12,750 from the Turrell Fund!
