Science of the Mind Journal
We are delighted to announce that our student journal, Science of the Mind, is finally finished, printed, and ready for distribution! In fact, it’s been so popular, we are currently revising and preparing the journal for a second printing! With the help and expertise of many scientists and experts in the field of neuroscience, meditation, anatomy and physiology, etc., our students at Compass School in Westminster, VT have found deeper meaning in their education and lives as they have explored the nature and workings of the brain and mind.
Each of our 15 juniors and seniors worked tirelessly contacting experts and writing multiple drafts of their brain/mind-inspired articles modeled after the New York Times’ science section, as well as crafting all original artwork. Max Schadt, a junior, spent a week of summer vacation editing and proofreading the piece after Soo-mi Park, also a junior, worked for several days on layout and cover design. We are so proud of each of the students’ dedication to this educational process and thank each and every student for pushing themselves and for taking this exiting topic to a new level!
Additionally, we have been accepted to present with our students at the Coalition of Essential School’s national conference in North Carolina in November, Live It. Learn It. Change It. Our workshop is called Science of the Mind: Designing Curriculum with the Brain in Mind How to incorporate brain, mind, and body awareness to schools and life. We plan to share examples of curriculum, the process of finding ‘experts’ in and out of the classroom in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, meditation, and education, and creating authentic assessment tools, like our student written Science of the Mind Journal.
Thank you for being part of this amazing educational opportunity that encouraged high school students to understand the relationship between their brain, mind, and body in order to improve the way they live, learn, and think.
