As I begin my third year at Compass I am grateful to be working with the 7th and 8th grade students. I appreciate their eagerness to learn, and I am always impressed with their curiosity and ability to ask and answer their own questions. A Little Bit About Me.... I was born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky. I moved to Tennessee when I graduated from high school, where I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics and Spanish at Union University. While in Tennessee, I worked with international students as a liaison and tutor, taught high school Spanish, and worked at an elementary school with English language learners from Japan. Upon completion of my undergraduate studies, I packed everything I owned into one suitcase and moved to Leon, Nicaragua, where I was the director of language development for El Ayudante, Inc. I lived and taught English in Central America until I decided to go back to school. I moved to Brattleboro, Vermont to study at the SIT Graduate Institute in 2008. I had no idea I would stay in New England this long. Three years have passed, and I look back on my time in the green mountain state with fond memories and gratefulness for all that has happened: I have earned a Master of Arts in Social Justice, a Master of Arts in Teaching Social Justice Curriculum from the Marlboro Graduate School, and I received my teaching licensure in secondary English from the Vermont Department of Education. I have spent the past 3 summers working with the World Learning Youth Leadership programs, as well as teaching at the Vermont Governor’s Institute for Youth Activism and Current Events. I have been a senior program facilitator with high school students from all over the world: Ireland, Cyprus, Turkey, Denmark, Mexico, the U.K., Iraq, and the U.S. This past summer I returned to Istanbul to lead an exchange with Iraqi high school students, which was one of the most incredible learning experiences of my life.
