Monday, 12/12: In class: worked on several play scenes, met w/ Amir and Julia w/ essays in progress.  Rough draft DUE TOMORROW (Tuesday).  Final Essay here

Thursday, 12/1: We discussed the following quotes from Little Bee in class. Then, we pondered possible final essay topics.  Finally, we ended class w/ a rousing zumba dance in the big room. . . .

DUE MONDAY:  (index card) Reading response on Little Bee.  I suggest choosing 1-2 sentences, and focusing on that passage--with written or visual.     

Thursday, 11/17: Read about a third of Little Bee.  No writing. Did you turn in your punctuation corrections?  Have a great vacation.

Monday, 11/14: Turn in punctuation quiz corrections (including at least 1 error from your in-class essays) next class.  Also, if you didn't complete the "Who is Afghanistan" task, complete that for Thursday as well.  Don't forget to start (or do) your self-assessment.  Who is Afghanistan?  Have you finished Kite Runner and turned in first draft of essay?

Monday, 10/24: Read Kite Runner, chapters 8, 9.  Do a Reading Response, using these KR questions.  Also, in class, we looked at photos and map of Afghanistan.  Here's the link for photos: http://travel.nationalgeographic.com/travel/countries/afghanistan-photos/

Monday, 10/17: Read Kite Runner, through p. 79 and do a response (same guidelines as always)--Due Monday, 10/24

Thursday, 10/13: Start Kite Runner--chapters 1-3; No response--but you'll write one in class on Monday.

Monday, 10/10: We watched T and L until 109.20 (or 18/32).  Response due on Thursday using one of these questions

Monday, 10/3: We finished Antigone, discussed links to current events, such as the Wall St. protest. In -class essay on Thursday (open note and book).  You'll be asked to write for no more than 1.5 hours, on questions such as: Who was right (or good), Antigone or Creon?  What is Ismene's role in the play, and why does she seem to just disappear?  Who is the tragic hero in this play?  What connections do you make between the events or characters in the play and the Wall St. protest that is going on today?  Or, what other current event do you see a connection to?  Or, what other characters in texts we've read/watched are similar to Antigone or to Creon?

No response due on Thursday--just the in-class essay!    

Monday, 9/26

We started Antigone (after taking vocab. quiz).  Continue reading to p. 140 and write a reading response. Due Thursday.  You can use these questions to help you with the reading response.

Tuesday, 9/20 (no class, but I snuck into Amir's class, and handed out your Vocabulary.  Quiz Monday!

Monday 9/19: In class: on freerice.com.  Start at level 21 or so in vocabulary until you start to get stumped.  Write down 3-4 words that you get wrong.  These will be used for our list this week.  Quiz next Monday.  In class, we watched an episode from the TV show, Stand-Off (on Hulu) called, "Accidental Negotiator".  This writing assignment can use this episode, this but doesn't have to.  Here's the writing assignment, 2 characters (due Monday!)
