There are only two options regarding commitment. You're either in or out. There's no such thing as a life in-between. Pat Riley

Over the past several years I have enjoyed helping students explore the questions; What do I understand about myself and What are my specific learning styles and strengths. We have worked together to identify and activate specific strategies to address learning needs as well as have worked on specific skills to address any areas of challenge. As an end result students not only became more skillful but learned to advocate for themselves and became more motivated to utilize strategies that really worked for their learning styles.

Today In the Compass School support services' tutorials students examine and learn about their particular learning style or profile, identify types of strategies to better access their ability to learn and hold onto information and reflect upon and keep track of their successes and struggles as they work within their regular academic program.

Our over arching goals for the year were:

Goals:

  • to examine ways to better understand yourself as a unique learner
  • to access strategies that complement your learning style and preferences
  • to utilize technology to enhance student learning
  • to recognize and practice the multiple ways of reading different types of text
  • to work on improving the quality of your own writing process

As the Fall school year 2007 opens, students will be asked to reflect on their growth from the previous year and will be drafting or creating their own learning plans based on specific goals and objectives for the year.
