Ninth Grade Portfolioesque Presentations
Presentation Dates: May 20 and 27, from 12:45-2:10 (Wednesdays)
Let’s celebrate your work this year with the rest of the 9th grade while making useful headway toward 10th grade roundtables! You will each share a 15- minute presentation on your 9th grade learning experience in a comfortable atmosphere surrounded by your 9th grade peers and your parents. From now until the dates mentioned above, we will prepare for these presentations every Tuesday and Wednesday during advisory time.
Written Requirements: 1. A one-page overview of your 9th grade experience
2. Two one-to- two-page reflections on specific learning
experiences within the Portfolio Realms (“sensory” aids
required for each)
Presentation Requirements: 1. Oral presentation of the items mentioned under written
Requirements (sensory aids included)
2. Question and Answer Session
Essay #1 (Overview of Your 9th Grade Experience): This is to be an introductory reflection, NOT a rehashing of each project, but rather a description of what 9th grade was like for you in general.
Some suggestions for developing this essay:
- In what ways do you feel successful this year?
- What challenges did you encounter this year? Did you resolve them? If so, how?
- Based on your 9th grade experience, what do you plan to do differently in 10th?
- In what ways are you different now than you were at the beginning of 9th grade?
Essays #’s 2 and 3 (Specific Learning Experiences within Portfolio Realm): For each essay, choose a realm that is important to you. Find at least one piece of work (project/event/test, etc.) from each realm to exhibit your progress within it. (This could be one large project or a series of smaller things.) Write a one-to-two page essay describing the significance of this learning experience to you and how it has helped you grow within the Realm you have chosen. Each realm’s work must be from a different class or venue (Community Service, Winterm, Exploratories, etc.), but at least one realm must be represented by an academic class. You must represent 2 different realms. Your presentation of these two essays must include a sensory aid for each, such as a poster, Power Point, song, poem, etc.
