       first trimester syllabus

Here is an overview of what the trimester will hold. My goal is that it is a good mix of grammar, conversation, creativity, and fun!

A.  Repaso de los básicos:
In the first weeks of the trimester we will review Spanish grammar.
•    Pronunciation
•    Basic conversation
•    Meanings and conjugations of present tense AR, ER and IR verbs
•    Articles and nouns
•    Adjectives
•    Helpful little words
•    Irregular verbs IR, TENER, SER, ESTAR
Assessment: Quizzes, homework

B. Comida/mercado
•    Food vocabulary
•    Likes and dislikes (Gustarse)
•    Simple future tense
•    Buying and selling (and bargaining) vocabulary
Assessments: Quiz, skits, homework

C. Chile, Pablo Neruda and “Oda al Tomate” (Ode to the tomatoe)
•    Introduction to Chilean History and the Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda
•    Read “Oda al Tomate” and write your own ode.  
Assessments: Quiz, Poem (written and reciting)

D: Día de los Muertos
•    Learn about this Mexican celebration and create an altar
•    Read “Tío Fernando”
•    Create an altar for a loved one who has passed away to add to our group altar
•    Numbers

E: Exam Review
Review all language and prepare for final test
Assessment: Writing, Reading, Listening, and Speaking Exam
