Soccer, Fall 2008
Soccer at Compass School this fall has taken on a slightly different look. The objective has been to develop the physical fitness, skills and enthusiasm for playing the sport of soccer.
We have three Exploratory practice days each week. We follow a prescribed pattern for each week. Students can choose one or all three of the soccer days in which to participate. On Monday of each week, we concentrate on conditioning. This has been interpreted as simply doing a lot of running and sprints. Actually, it is all of that, but in a format that is engaging and exciting, such as "capture the flag", "tag" and other games, where participants are required to sprint and run as part of the game. Tuesday's, we focus on soccer skill development through particular exercises and drills. Thursday of each week, we focus on interleague play, where we have live game play with 6-per-side teams in a competitive format. This allows kids the chance to gain valuable game time experience and live soccer experience with a team that they will play with throughout the fall season.
In addition to all of this, we have a middle school team that has regularly scheduled matches with local schools. The following is a list of the dates, times and locations of each match.
Tuesday, September 23: @Greenwood School B team, 4pm-5pm, return Compass by 5:30pm
Thursday, September 25: Greenwood School @ Compass School (Westminster) 4pm - 5pm
Friday, October 31: @ The Grammar School, 4pm - 5pm, return Compass by 5:30pm
