Health Week 2009

Health Week is coming up next week! We will suspend regular classes from November 2-5 for an intensive week of workshops, performances, and guest speakers. This intensive week will offer training and exposure to issues regarding sexuality and substance use and abuse. Workshops will range from reproductive anatomy classes to discussions about healthy relationships and avoiding bullying and abuse. Alternative health and wellness practices that address feeling well and taking care of oneself in a positive way will also are introduced. Practitioners from Sojourns will share information about acupuncture to stress reduction. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in yoga classes, Jin Shin Jyutsu training, and an introduction to EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). Realizing that students’ knowledge and curiosities will differ, we have tried to make the content appropriate to age and experience.  Moreover, we have tried to enlist speakers who will talk openly and honestly with students, who will engage students’ participation, and who will be sensitive to the subjects that they present.

Please note that Health Week is meant to be a community-building week and a springboard for further discussion, learning, and workshops throughout the year. It is by no means all-inclusive of every topic that we wish to cover in our health and wellness curriculum. We welcome your suggestions for keeping the spirit and learning of Health Week alive throughout the year.

School will be dismissed at 2:15pm during Health Week.

Attention Middle School Parents: Middle schoolers will need to bring a lunch or some money to buy lunch in Keene on Monday, November 2, the first day of Health Week! Thanks! $7-15 should be plenty!

Please see the end of this newsletter for a full description of the workshops and performances that will take place during Health Week. If you have any questions, concerns, contacts, or suggestions about Health Week please contact Janet or Lauren.
