Compass School presents Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

Continuing their spring theater tradition, the Compass School players will present the beloved Shakespearean classic 12th Night the first weekend in April. The story involves mistaken identity and confused love as Viola (Julia Foster) and her shockingly similar twin brother Sebastian (Chris Timmons) each believe the other to have drowned in a shipwreck.

Memory and Future Poems

The first poems we wrote were on the theme of memory.  The second was on the theme of the future.  We had a very special visitor today, Sarita Krugman, and she's agreed to let us post her entries here (thanks Sarita!).

Students' Poetry Inspires

Stuents have been gathering every Monday and working together to bring to life the spoken word.  To view their submissions, click on http://www.compass-school.org/poetryconnexions/blog

Overcome Poems

Overcome Poems

We wrote today around the theme of trying to overcome the little things in live and the big ones.  We discussed Martin Luther King's inspiring words and how we could write in the vein of encouraging others.

You
by, Brandy Lawrence

Not simple
Not weak
Lift me
Fill me with laughter
With a squiggle of your lips
Turned to an upwards lift
It took a while...

Places Poems

Strip Land
Kailey Rinder

You have to be moving.
Then stop.
Look up.
Trees seem to cover your eyes
leaves move in the brisk breeze.
I've only been here a few times.

Always the same time.
Always walking.
Looking up for a breath.
Always rushing
But
Then stop.

In midlife.
Life moves around
I smile.
Maybe one day
I'll travel

Far off to places.

Further then my driveway
while I'm
walking home.

Getting to Know You--Name Poems

For our first assignment, we wrote 'name-poems' using the following guidelines:

  • name
  • describe where you live
  • what are your dreams/hopes
  • what are your fears
  • questions you may have about the world
  • what do you bring to the world
  • what do you need/take from the world
  • one or two words that are inspiring to you... or a clever ending

We encourage you to write one too and post it here so we can get to know each other!

Here are a few entries:
