Five Vermont Students Earn National Recognition for Art and Writing Excellence

BRATTLEBORO, VT -- As the Vermont affiliate for the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) is pleased to announce that five Vermont students have been selected as 2013 National Award recipients. The students are among only 1,600 teens nationwide chosen to receive national medals by a panel of distinguished judges. Works were judged on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal vision or voice. Teachers of national winners were also recognized with awards.

Compass Students Apply Learning to Real World Problems

“How come we gotta learn this?” kids often ask of teachers in school. At Compass School in Westminster, Vermont, students get to apply their learning to real world needs during Community Service Winter Term.

Inquiry or the desire to do, know or understand is the principal motivating force behind all learning.  A recent assignment involved each student identifying 20 science-related questions that they would really like to know the answers to.  Below is a small sampling of this extraordinary list of questions.
