Amir's Class Policies and Procedures/ HW Policy

Amir's class policies and procedures

1. Please come to class on time and prepared with your homework done, something to write with, and all class materials.  The first time you are late, I will call home.  The third time you are late you will have to make up the time at lunch or afterschool in some fashion.  Being late beyond this will result in an SST.

2. If you would like to use your computer in class, please ask permission. Always have your computer closed at the beginning of class.  Please do not use your computer to surf the Internet, check your email, Facebook, or MySpace, play games, or do any other activity that is superfluous to our task in class. If I suspect you of abusing your computer privileges, I will ask you to sit in a place where I don’t have to guess about how you are using your computer. If my suspicion is confirmed, I reserve the right to confiscate your computer for the day. If this occurs, I will contact your parent or guardian.

3. You must have a folder or binder, and a notebook devoted solely to this class. You must also have a separate journal—like a hardbound composition book.  All class handouts, drafts, graded work, and some notes should go into your folder or binder.

4. If you are absent, please look for missed assignments in the appropriate folder on the wall near the door.  All homework assignments will also be posted on my website the day they are assigned.

5. All typed work must include be in 12 pt. Times New Roman Font with 1-inch margins on the top and bottom and 1.25 left and right, and be double-spaced. Work not in this form will not be accepted.

6. The last several minutes of class will always be devoted to writing down assignments and due dates in your assignment book, and tidying up the classroom.  Please do your part in helping to keep the classroom clean and tidy by refraining from leaving trash or personal items on the floor or on the tables. Please remember to place all handouts you have received in your folder or binder.

Amir’s Homework Policy:

Homework will consist of research projects, readings, writing assignments, and various other assignments and activities. To get the best out of this course and to receive a decent grade you are required to do all assigned homework. To clarify:

1)    Homework should always be printed before class and placed in the proper in-box when it is due.  You are welcome to email me homework assignments as a back up and for feedback, but you must always turn in a hard copy to receive credit.

2)    After a day late, I won’t accept late work. COMMUNICATION IS KEY.  It is important that you let me know if you are unable to complete an assignment or turn it in on time.

3)    In order to get credit for this class, you must complete 80% of the minor HW assignments and ALL of the major assignments.

4)    Minor homework will be graded on a scale of check minus to check plus.  Check minus= assignment incomplete, of low quality, and/or is late.  Check=assignment is complete, on time, and meets expectations.  Check plus= assignment is complete, extra elements may be present, it is on time or early, and exceeds expectations in depth of questioning, analysis, research and/or insight.

More in-depth assignments will receive grades.

What to bring to class (and what will happen if you don’t):

ü  Binder with all your work.

ü  Books and materials we are reading in class.

ü  Something to write with.

ü  A willingness to participate in discussion.

*A Mid-Semester Progress Report will follow to inform you of your how you are doing in meeting these expectations.
