About Compass

Compass School is an innovative, nonprofit, nonsectarian independent day school in Westminster, Vermont founded in 1999. It offers an exciting educational option for area students in grades 7-12.

By choosing to remain small and open to a diverse student population, Compass School provides a safe and challenging learning environment for students from many surrounding communities.

At Compass, the learning community is built around strong relations among students and faculty that allow more personalized learning. A rigorous integrated curriculum set in the context of a supportive community setting gives every student the opportunity to flourish within a safe learning environment.

A balance of diverse experiences serve to educate the whole child—thought provoking classes, wide ranging exploratories, active school democracy, extensive travel, enriching cultural exchange programs, meaningful community service, challenging independent projects, and reflective portfolio roundtables—these and more create an active, engaging, and interesting learning environment where every student can find success.

The rich academic objectives of Compass School meet or exceed those outlined in the Vermont State Framework of Curriculum Standards. Over 90% of Compass graduates go on to college, and all are well prepared to meet their personal goals, continuing study in college or entering the world of work.
