Educational Overview
The Compass School is an innovative, nonprofit, nonsectarian independent day school. It offers an exciting educational option for area students in grades 7-12.
The Compass School opened in September 1999 with full Independent school approvals from the Vermont Department of Education.
By choosing to remain small and open to a diverse student population, the Compass School provides a safe and challenging learning environment for students from many surrounding communities.
At Compass, the learning community is built around strong relations among students and faculty that allows more personalized learning. By combining a rigorous integrated curriculum within the context of a small community setting, students are given the opportunity to experiment and flourish within a safe learning environment.
Instruction is based on current research describing best practices – active, problem based learning that engages students in diverse experiences. Students are encouraged to use a wide range of modes to access, interpret and share their learning.
The rich academic objectives of the Compass School meet or exceed those outlined in the Vermont State Framework of Curriculum Standards. Students who graduate from The Compass School will be prepared to meet their personal goals, continuing study in college or entering the world of work.
